Known as the horror sub-genre with no limits, splatterpunk is gory, graphic, and violent. In this case, it pushes back against traditional horror narratives, which rely on suggestion and implication to instill unease. Like other literary “punk” subgenres, splatterpunk is a reaction. The downside, however, is that they erase the “punk” aspect. ![]() ![]() In some ways, they’re more descriptive and give you a better idea of what you’re in for. You might know splatterpunk under its other names: hardcore horror or extreme horror. It’s complicated, and there’s no horror sub-genre that embodies this “complicated” sentiment more than splatterpunk horror. Why do you like being scared? What’s so great about watching bad stuff happen to other people? People have said these things to me over the course of my horror-loving life, but it turns out there are plenty of reasons to seek out the genre. ![]()
